Srah Srang, the "Imperial washing pool" is a vast lake East of Angkor's capital Angkor Thom. An alluring and calm recognize, the water store measuring 700 meters in length and more than 300 meters wide is loaded with water right up 'til the present time.
The Srang lake lies straightforwardly East of the Banteay Kdei sanctuary. A walkway from the sanctuary's East entryway prompts the embarkation patio on the West outskirt of the Srah.
The lake was uncovered amid the reign of King Rajendravarman II in the tenth century. It was a bathing pool, a lake utilized for custom washings.
Disregarding its name "Regal showering pool", Srah Srang was for the advantage surprisingly. A tenth century engraving discovered adjacent calls upon individuals not to bathe creatures in the srah in this way dirtying its waters, and not drove crowds of elephants pulverize the earthen dykes.
The site was cleared from wilderness vegetation in 1920.
Embarkation patio
Amid the reign of King Jayavarman VII in the second 50% of the twelfth century various modifications were made to the site. The earth bank encompassing the lake was supplanted by laterite steps, enabling simple access to the water.
A multi layered embarkation patio with Naga balustrades was based on the West side of the lake. The porch was presumably used to leave on a vessel to the simulated island in the focal point of the Srah, where once stood a haven, of which for all intents and purposes nothing remains today. On the cruciform porch stood a wooden structure which has long gone containing two internal yards encompassed by exhibitions. Flanking the highest point of the stairs to the pier are two vast stone lions ignoring the water.
Dawn and dusk seeing spot
The embarkation porch has as of late been reestablished. The Srah Srang is a mainstream place to watch the dawn (from the embarkation porch) and nightfall (from the East side of the Srah) with an exceptionally decent impression of the sun in the waters.
