Design of the sanctuary

The sanctuary region was encompassed by a canal. Before the stairway prompting the peak sanctuary are two 2½ meter high lion statues standing watchman. A way prompts the principle entrance, that confronts East.

Just before the remaining parts of the laterite divider with the gopura entrance door are a couple of columns that stay of a building, and a structure of a later date that contains an impression of the Buddha. Before the Eastern side of the ventured pyramid are two sandstone library structures with passages toward the East and West.

Five ventured pyramid

The pyramid of the Phnom Bakheng comprises of five subsiding levels measuring 76 meters at its base and 47 meters at the best level. On the stage of the fifth level are the vast focal haven, encompassed by four littler asylums. The towers cherished lingas, some of which are still there. The expansive focal pinnacle had four entryways, though as a rule there is only one passageway (normally East), while the others are false entryways. The North side of the focal prang contains an engraving dating from the rule of King Jayavarman V (968 - 1001).

Chiseling of a Devata

On the towers are finely cut statues of devatas (gatekeeper spirits) and apsaras (an awesome female normally portrayed moving). The lintels and pediments on the prasats demonstrate a few delineations, similar to naga snakes and warrior figures.

109 Sanctuary towers

An aggregate of 109 haven towers were work at the site, 44 around the base of the pyramid, 60 on the five levels of the pyramid and the 5 huge prasats to finish everything. Today just piece of the focal prang still exists, while almost no remaining parts of the four encompassing littler towers. The vast majority of the 60 around the base have not survived.

At the focal point of each side of the pyramid is a stairway prompting the stage to finish everything. The extremely soak stairway is monitored by lions. Inverse each of the stairs was a Nandi bull (the mount of Shiva), of which parts remain.
